Person A:

Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan are very different characters in A Walk to Remember. They’re both seventeen years olds, in their senior year, and go to Beaufort High School. Landon lives with his mother and his father is apart of the government, therefore most of the time is never there for him. We, as a group, believe Landon acts kind of like he’s better than everyone else and can be a little rude at times. Since hasn’t really had a male figure in his life, Landon has become a little rebellious, as if he doesn’t care about the things he does sometimes. Jamie, however, seems like the better character of the two. She’s a shy, quiet girl who keeps to herself. Her father’s name is Hegbert, the minister of the local church in Beaufort. Because she’s been raised with religion as her number one priority, Jamie is always praying and carries around a bible at all times. Landon and Jamie are nowhere alike, but that doesn’t mean that love can’t interfere, does it?

Person B & C:

- "Who I was in school was one thing; who I was after school was something completely different, and Jamie had never been on my social calendar".

- "But it wasn’t just the way Jamie looked that made her different; it was also the way she acted.”

- “But he wasn’t ever there for me.”

- “His wife, a wispy little thing twenty years younger than he, went through six miscarriages before Jamie was born, and in the end she died in childbirth, making Hegbert a widower who had to raise a daughter on his own."

- “My father and I were at the doctor’s office.”

1. Do you think Landon and Jamie's relationship would work in a high school like ours?
2. Do you think Jamie is so conervative because of her father being a minister?
3. Do you think Landon's attitude was affected by his father?
4. Who was your favorite character in the book so far?
5. Why do you think Jamie's father was so protective of her?

Person D:

The Nicholas sparks book, A Walk To Remember, is great so far. My group and I love it so much. We are having a great time reading it as a group. We read the first two chapters and it was about the main character, which is Landon, he lives in Beauport, North Carolina. Basically he just talks about where he grew up, what school he goes too, who hes friends with, and where he hangs out. Hes a senior in high school and is planning to go to North Carolina state colledge. Landon also talks about who he is bringing to the home coming dance too, and he ends up bringing a nice church girl because she was the only choice he had left, which is pretty mean.
The girl that Landon brings to the Dance is name is Jamie Sullivan. Her dad is a minister, and was 55 years old when she was born, and her mother died while giving birth to her. My group thought that part was a little weird. Also, we don’t understand why Jamie Sullivan is so awkward tworad herself and others. She doesn’t have a lot of friends, and she knows everything about everyone from the church records that she looks through. Other than that the book is really good and we are excited to read more, and hopefully read more Nicholas Sparks after we finish this one.

  1. On your group's wiki page, discuss the type of language that your book contains. Is it easy to read? Conversational? "Classic"? Does it use a lot of words you don't understand? What grade level do you think the book is written at, and why?
  • The language that our book contains is not old, its modern day.
  • Yes its very easy to comprehend.
  • No not really.
  • Yes the book is classic.
  • No it never uses words we don’t understand.
  • We think that its our age level, because the main characters are teenagers, and in highschool, so its very relatable.

Person B & C:

- "Here she was covered in puke, actually thanking me for evening. Jamie Sullivan could really drive a guy crazy sometimes."

- "My brain suddenly clicked through the scenarios as i tried to figure which one i should do."

- "I nodded, my lips pressed together, knowing that i would have been one of those people she was talking about."

- "It was the first time i'd ever seen her cry. I think part of me wanted to cry, too."

- "I don't have to think about it," i finally said. "I'll do it."

1. Why do you think Landon decides to take Jamie to the dance, and Jamie accepts?
2. If you were Hegbert, the father of Jamie and very striced about his daughter, would you have let her go with his enemy's son like he did?
3. Why do you think Jamie changed her style and actually got dressed up for the dance?
4. Does it show that Landon really does like Jamie?
5. Why do you think Landon accepted the request to be the star of the play?

Person D:

So far, my group and I really enjoy our book A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks. There are many parts that we discussed on Friday about Landon and Jamie going to the dance. We wondered why he asked her and why she accepted the invitation. We thought that they are going to make a cute couple even though Jamie’s father doesn’t approve of Landon or her dating at all. We also talked about the dance was very awkward for both of them because they are two totally different people. My group and I wondered if there really going to stay together or will their differences would separate them. Jamie helped her friend after she gets sick and Landon and her leave to go home because Jamie has to be home before 11.
Our group discussion went really well. I thought that we touched every important topic in the book. Everybody stayed on task and gave their opinions on things we talked about. I think that every single week so far our group has had a great discussion. We think that Jamie’s father is too protective and needs to lighten up. Once Landon doesn’t car what other people think about Jamie, they will be a really good couple.

- “What do you want to do in the future?”

- “So, what do you do?” I asked. “Besides working with the orphans or helping critters or reading the Bible, I mean?”

- “Do you ever just go off with friends and goof off?” “No,” she said I Could tell by the way she answered that even to her it was obvious that no one wanted her around much.

- “Look,” I said, reaching for her hand, “I promise I’ll make it up to you.”

- “She didn’t look like the girl I’d grown up with or the girl I’d come recently to know.” “She looked like an angel.”

  1. Do you think that Landon is finally really starting to fall for Jamie?
  2. Why do you think Jamie doesn’t like answering questions about the future?
  3. When Landon was rude to Jamie do you think he apologized because her being around Jamie is making him a nicer person?
  4. Why did Jamie keep the Bible with her at all times?
  5. Did you expect the reaction Landon had when he saw Jamie on stage for the first time?

Person D:

So far in the book A Walk To Remember everything is going great. Landon and Jamie finally put aside their differences and put on a play for the whole school. Jamie really wants to put on a play for the orphans but Mr. Jenkins, who is the director of the orphanage, wouldn’t let Jamie and Landon perform it. Other than that the whole school loved the play, and Landon thought Jamie looked beautiful in her costume.
My group and I were discussing the book and thought that Landon should of recognized that Jamie is a wonderful girl and shouldn’t had yelled at her when he walked her home. But other than that our group discussion was good. Next week we are Reading chapters nine, ten and eleven and hopefully it will be great just like the others.

Group Jobs(week five):

Person A:
My group and I liked this book a lot. One final reflection would be that girls should read it because it’s definitely a girly book. This topic has been less effectively in other books. Also, I think this book should be in out school curriculum because it’s basically about learning a lesson, changing, and trusting one another. My group and I think that this book is one of the best books we have ever read.
